Family dinner

On NPR this morning they were discussing how studies and data show that kids who eat dinner as a family tend to have less issues with drugs, drinking, smoking, eating disorders, etc. And then went on to say that families who have dinner together and have conversations at dinner more often function as healthy families. Oh, and also kids who have parents that read to them and play with them on a regular basis do better in school.

And all I could think of was DUH! I mean, come on, do we really need studies and research to tell us that spending time with our kids makes them turn out better? Is that rocket science?
